Go Grandma, it's ya Birthday!!

This past Saturday was my 2...(child please) birthday! Saying it was fun would be an understatement. I had a blast. From my best friend's mom's all white birthday party Friday. To Breakfast Saturday morning with my fam. A paint and sip class at Bottles and Bottega South Loop Saturday night. Onto an eventful night walk in Wicker Park with old friends. Ending it all off Sunday with a chill day laying out at the beach. I truly enjoyed myself! Here I've gathered together the few pictures I could conjure up. While this weekend was fun-filled, everything worn, with the exception of my shoes, was found at a thrift store!

Friday

White Moda International Dress sz. M: Thrift Store, $2
Earrings: Local Beauty Supply, $1
(pardon the crappy hoodratty mirror shot, it'll get better)

Some friends from the party looking spiffy in their white duds.

Army Fatigue Jacket Men's sz. S: Thrift Store, $6

1241 S. Michigan Ave. Chicago IL
This is the picture that we painted in the class, a martini.. How Birthday appropriate!? Surely some lines are blurred, chopped and screwed... Throw a little Rose and Merlot in the mix and it's bound to happen. This class was so much fun! I encourage you all to check out this studio. Our instructor Steve and his assistant Anne were such a joy. If you're not in the Chicago-land area, look up your local studios and get to painting!!

Just wanted to give you all a taste of what I experienced this weekend! I want to thank everyone that was involved or took the time out to think about me on my birthday. You all are truly loved and appreciated. Hope you enjoyed my recap! Take care lovers!

Who? What? Why?!

Why... Thrift?
“So… when did you first fall in love with thrift shops?” Brown Sugar reference… Sanaa Lathan… No? Whatevs. SO! Let me lead by saying, thrifting has not been a recent "discovery" or fad-like thing for me. It's a hobby. It's a lifestyle and it is something I've developed a GREAT love for. So please, no generalizations for this gal. I'm also extremely cheap. I hate looking like everyone else. I enjoy finding one of a kind items and making them my own. And I am extremely cheap. Anywho… When I first started going to thrift stores on my own, I was hesitant. What about germs? I don’t wanna touch that. Should I wear gloves? The employees wear gloves! It smells like fermented gym socks and alley butt. What’s that smell?! My grandma wouldn't even wear that… Wait, my grandma did wear that. Is it 1972? No really… What is that smell! My little soul grew weary, it does smell funny though. As I recall my first memorable experience in a thrift store, it brings me to a fit of giggles. I remember browsing around the store, a little confused but intrigued by all of the kid tested toys and wide variety of wedding dresses... I mean, is nothing sacred? Well no, they were pretty ugly... I digress. As I was walking around, perched to my mother's side, I ran into a peer from camp. Now this girl was the pseudo Regina George*(I shall refer to her as PRG) of Tuley Park. You may be confused as to why this was so comical to me, let me explain. This girl spoke very highly of herself, her family's wealth and her material items, so seeing her there shopping beside common folk for used items was hilarious to a 10 year old. To an ignorant mind, that was all I needed to know that NO ONE is above shopping resale. While this may seem minuscule to many, it was simply the beginning of a new way of thinking for me. No, this girl was no fresh prince of Chicago. But if she was, she was clearly no different from me or anyone else. Some people's biggest problems are worrying and caring about what other's think of them. I always noticed the insecurities PRG carried around, but there was something she had to prove to people apparently.

What... do I love?
Cool $#!@. Easy hair. Long hair. Short hair. Cheap, one of a kind items. Laughter. Loud music. Good music- many genres... You don't have all day. Red wine. Cheap red wine. Family time. Movie dates. Makeup. FOOD. Good friends. Good Food.  Boots. High heels. Sneakers. Higher Heels. NO KITTEN HEEL FORMED AGAINST ME SHALL EVER PROSPER. Nail polish. Large frame glasses. Pondering the intricacies of cinema. Mild weather. Cool weather. DIM( doing it myself.) Being a light and sharing my resources. *ting*

Who... Am I?
Moving on and forward, you may still be wondering who I am and what is my purpose and goal here. I'm not big on bios and a synopsis about one's accomplishments, life stores and essay'esque questions. Simply put, I am you. I am the voice that every one possesses but rarely listens to. How Kanye of me, right? I'm really just here to help us all find ways to experience true fabulousness and self wealth. You will never witness me speaking on "being broke" or anything aligned with fiscal negativity or have nots. I don't believe in broke. Pockets don't break, spirits do. SO, this blog isn't for "broke" people. It's for everyone. Especially those that are patient, open to trying new things, saving coins and using something as simple as a shopping trip as a learning experience. Enjoy the ride and buckle up, you may have noticed... I'm a bit coo-coo... I have helmets, you'll be fine!
